Most of us locals along the Emerald Coast are pretty
familiar with knowledge about the ocean and the seafood that comes from its
bounty. We understand that many of our visitors are traveling from land locked
areas where the sound of waves rumbling through the night is a luxury and not
natural sound of your backyard. So with that being said, we would like to share
some of our local knowledge with you in order for you to be better educated
about the seafood you consume.
- Seafood is cheaper than it should be. This is the last source of wild protein that the U.S. has. It is very limited subject to all kinds of quotas, closures and weather. It is subject to something as simple as the fish not biting.
- In the state of Florida, over 90% of seafood will be imported.
- The majority seafood is mislabeled. Unless your
- in a fish market and you see the whole fish in front of you, the odds of you actually getting what you ordered is slim.
- 93% of Red Snapper sold in the U.S. is not Red Snapper.
- Very few fish actually come from the Gulf of Mexico. Over 50% of the 10% of fish from the U.S. is farm raised.
At Harbor Docks, our fishermen
spend long days and nights out on the Gulf fishing for that gorgeous Red
Snapper. When you eat at Harbor Docks in Destin, Florida you know that what you
order on the menu is exactly what you will get. One hundred percent of the
time.
